2026 ANZ Business Awards Finalist Journey

2026 ANZ Business Awards Finalist Journey

Beyond the Gala: Celebrating a "Triple Threat" for Environmental Excellence

It’s been a whirlwind since the 2026 ANZ Business of the Year Awards gala. While the gala shoes are back in the cupboard, the pride we feel is at an all-time high. Walking away as a Triple Finalist in three distinct categories was more than just a nomination, it was a validation of our mission to redefine what a local farm can be.

Tiny Space Greenz was incredibly honored to be named a finalist for:

  • Excellence in Environmental Sustainability
  • Excellence in Primary Industries
  • Emerging Business of the Year

Why These Three Categories Matter

For us, sustainability isn't a marketing buzzword; it’s a mechanical necessity. Being recognized in Primary Industries and Emerging Business alongside Sustainability proves that eco-friendly farming is also viable, professional, and here to stay. When we founded Ashburton’s first commercial vertical farm in 2022, we made a pact to build a circular economy, not just a vegetable shop.

The ANZ judges looked closely at our model, specifically:

  • The Swap-a-Tray System: Our signature zero-waste approach to living microgreens.
  • Plastic-Free Packaging: Our commitment to 100% home-compostable packaging and wood-pulp materials.
  • Resource Efficiency: Our vertical stacks use roughly 90% less water than traditional field farming, providing resilience against a changing climate.

The Longest-Running Pioneer in Mid Canterbury

As the district's longest-running vertical farming pioneers, we’ve seen larger, more automated operations come and go. This award recognition highlights that resilience and sustainability go hand-in-hand. By focusing on the Mid Canterbury community and professional grade quality, we’ve built a farm that isn’t just tech-forward, but deeply rooted in Ashburton.

"To be recognized as a triple finalist alongside the best businesses in the region proves that you don't need a massive footprint to make a massive impact. You just need a smarter system."

What’s Next? As Seen in Business South

This momentum is only building. With our recent feature in Business South Magazine and this regional recognition, we are doubling down on our mission. We are expanding our local subscription services, bringing plastic-free microgreens, Thai basil, and specialty Crystalline Ice Plants directly to more kitchens across the Ashburton District.

Whether you find us at the Ashburton Farmers Market or shop our professional growing supplies online, you’re supporting a business that the ANZ Awards has officially recognized as a leader in New Zealand’s green future.

Thank you for being part of our journey from a tiny space to a triple-finalist regional leader!
